About The Uglich Holy Theophany convent
The convent founded in the late XIV century. Originally located in the northwestern part of the Uglich Kremlin.
In 1609, was ravaged by the Poles. Restored in 1620's. In 1661 moved to its present location. In the 1689-1700 built the first stone church. In 1764 received the status of Third class. In the XIX century was carried out active stone construction. From the middle of XIX century was one of the most important and famous monasteries of the Yaroslavl diocese. The number of nuns has reached 250 people.
The convent was closed in about 1930. In the 1930-1960-s its architecture significantly affected.
In 2003, Feodorvskaya and Smolenskaya churches have been returned to believers.
In 2010, the revival of the convent.
